Outdoor + Easy Family Days

July is one of those months where simple outdoor time is honestly the best kind of plan.

• Local playground hopping - Victoria Park + neighbourhood parks across Kitchener–Waterloo. Perfect for quick outings, coffee-in-hand mornings, or letting the kids burn energy without a plan.

• Nature walks - Laurel Creek Conservation Area + Huron Natural Area. Easy trails, lots of space to explore, and great for stroller walks or simple nature outings with kids.

• St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market strolls. Grab a coffee, browse the market, and let the kids wander - an easy slow-morning outing.

• Splash pads. A simple “pack towels and go” option.

Free Library Programs (KW Libraries)

One of the most underrated (and completely free) things to do locally.

Across Kitchener + Waterloo libraries, you’ll find weekly drop-in programs like:

• Babytime + storytime sessions - calm, short programs for little ones.

• Toddler rhyme time - music, movement, and social play.

• Drop-in play + craft mornings - low-pressure, just show up.

• LEGO tables + seasonal kids activities - great for older toddlers + school-aged kids.

July Highlights (Worth the Outing)

A few of the bigger, make-a-day-of-it events this month:

  • Canada Day Celebrations – Across Waterloo Region (July 1). Celebrate with live entertainment, family activities, food vendors, kids’ zones, and fireworks in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and surrounding townships.
  • Cars & Coffee – Zehrs Stanley Park (Fridays: July 4, 11, 18 & 25). Browse classic and custom cars while enjoying live entertainment, face painting, food vendors, and family fun. Admission is free, with donations supporting the Salvation Army.
  • Cherry Festival – Cherry Park, Kitchener (July 4). Enjoy live entertainment, over 70 vendors, food trucks, family activities, an antique car show, and the annual cherry pie eating contest.
  • At Home in the Forest – Lakeside Park, Kitchener (July 4, 10–11:30AM). A free, child-led outdoor gathering where families can explore nature, play, and connect together.
  • Midway at The Aud – Kitchener Memorial Auditorium (July 9–12). Four days of carnival rides, midway games, and classic fair treats. Admission is free, with rides and games available for purchase.
  • Kitchener Ribfest & Craft Beer Show – Victoria Park (July 17–19). One of Kitchener’s biggest summer festivals featuring award-winning BBQ ribs, Ontario craft beer, live entertainment, local vendors, and a Kids Fun Zone with family activities. Admission is free.
  • Steckle Heritage Farm Family Night – (July 21, 5–7PM). Spend the evening visiting farm animals, making a seasonal craft, enjoying a wagon ride, and bringing along a picnic dinner while the kids explore.
  • Sun Life Waterloo Busker Carnival – Uptown Waterloo (July 23–26). One of Waterloo Region’s biggest summer festivals featuring incredible street performers, KidsPark, interactive activities, midway rides, food vendors, and entertainment throughout the weekend.
  • Bridgeport Community Centre Summer Party – July 25 (6PM). A free family evening featuring live music by The Kickbacks, bouncy castles, a magic show, balloon artists, concession treats, and an outdoor movie on the big screen. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs.

McLennan Park - 901 Ottawa St. S.
A family favourite featuring a dirt pump track, jump park, beginner riding loop, 4X race course and free-ride area. Plus enjoy the splash pad, playground, skatepark, washrooms and plenty of parking - making it easy to spend the whole day.

Waterloo

RIM Park Bike Park - 2001 University Ave. E. (behind baseball diamond #2)
Features two asphalt pump tracks - one beginner and one advanced. Great for balance bikes, BMX bikes, mountain bikes, scooters and skateboards. Washroom and parking are available nearby.

Cambridge

Cambridge Bike Park - 355 Franklin Blvd.
A paved pump track and bike skills area designed for riders of various ages and abilities.

Guelph

Guelph Bike Park - 160 Kortright Rd. W. (behind the West End Community Centre) A paved pump track with additional bike skills features, making it a fun stop for beginner and intermediate riders.
